Caldera Projects delivers industrial fabrication CAD, certified mechanical design for regulated equipment, and Pavilion-linked sports infrastructure planning — across South Wales and beyond.
We are a mechanical design and project development studio built around a single principle: serious engineering thinking should be accessible to any client with a real problem to solve — not only those with in-house teams or large budgets.
Caldera Projects was founded by Samuel Roberts, a mechanical engineer working daily inside the South Wales industrial base — fabrication-grade design, technical drawing production, and design for manufacture. Autodesk Inventor at professional level, with Revit added for structural and planning work.
The studio is built on a capability-first model. The question asked before any project starts is not "what sector is this in?" but "can we lead this, and do we know who fills the gaps?" That discipline keeps every delivered package inside its scope and to a standard the client can actually use.
Alongside direct mechanical work, Caldera takes on certified and regulated design — UKCA / CE marking, PED pressure equipment, LOLER lifting equipment — and sports infrastructure planning, where our Pavilion platform brings clubs to the studio for the drawings their grant funding needs.
The name Caldera references volcanic calderas — environments where pressure produces results. That is the approach brought to every brief.
We work across three engineering disciplines — each a different version of the same problem: translating physical intent into a usable, deliverable engineering package.
Outsourced design capacity for fabrication shops, machine shops, and product founders. Inventor-based 3D modelling, production-ready drawings, and design-for-manufacture review — built to the standard the workshop floor will actually accept.
Certified mechanical design where standards, traceability, and documentation are non-negotiable. UKCA and CE marking, pressure equipment under PED, and lifting equipment under LOLER — the work most freelancers avoid because it requires standards knowledge.
Planning packs, clubhouse extensions, and full development packages for grassroots sports clubs across Wales. Clubs reach us through Pavilion — when their grant funding lands, the drawings are already ready.
From a sharp one-page presence to lead-winning business sites and full web apps — designed, built, hosted and maintained by Caldera. Fixed scope, fixed fee, and a care plan that keeps it fast, secure and current for life.
Pavilion is Caldera's club management platform. It started as a grant eligibility checker covering all 22 Welsh local authorities. It is now a working operational suite — committee permissions, fixtures & squad, AI grant drafting, sponsorship, and a live funding pipeline. Currently in pilot with a South Wales cricket club.
Free for every Welsh sports club. Paid tiers unlock the full operational platform — and clubs that find grants through Pavilion come back to Caldera when those grants need drawings.
Every project follows the same principle: understand the problem properly before touching tools. That discipline is what keeps deliverables usable.
A discovery call or site visit to fully understand your scope, constraints, and the outcome you are working towards. No assumptions made at this stage.
A written scope document and a fixed-fee quote before any work starts. Every item is listed. Nothing is ambiguous. You confirm before we proceed.
CAD models, technical drawings, planning packages, or documentation — built to the standard its end use demands. Revisions are handled within scope.
A clean, complete handover with all files, native formats, and context notes. Everything the next person in the chain — contractor, planner, or manufacturer — needs.
Whether you have a clear brief or just a rough idea, the first conversation is always free. We’ll tell you honestly whether we’re the right fit.
